Game Designer

The position
Playsport Games is looking for an experienced Game Designer to join our friendly games studio based in Guildford.
Duties
This is a fantastic opportunity to develop your free-to-play design career in mobile: help create new games and work on highly successful live games at a leading games studio.
Your primary responsibilities will include:
- Design gameplay experiences and game features that deliver strong player engagement, retention, and monetisation.
- Create game content to delight players, and design and balance in-game economies to maximise game performance.
- Write, review and give feedback on game/feature design documents, builds, and plans.
- Participate as a key member of the production team focused on creative elements to guide projects from concept to launch and beyond.
- Support the rest of the team throughout the product lifecycle with subject-matter expertise on mobile & social game design.
- Brainstorming as a team and designing solutions when development teams run into challenges and need additional creative assistance.
Skills & Experience
We’re looking for a social, hard-working person who enjoys working in team with other people and is passionate and dedicated about his/her work. The ideal candidate will be strongly skilled in the following:
- Experience designing F2P and/or micro-transaction-based published titles, preferably on mobile.
- Strong knowledge of the mobile & social game space, with exceptional understanding of current design techniques to deliver excellent engagement, retention, and monetisation.
- Strong grasp of mobile user-experience design, and ability to consider & empathise with many different types of players.
- Creative problem solver, with proven ability to create compelling gameplay.
- Relentlessly self-critical: always sees the pros and cons of each approach, and works tirelessly to improve design solutions. Prolific with high quality, well-thought-through proposals.
- Able to balance between innovation and setting reasonable goals.
- Drive, initiative and an ability to self-manage and prioritise effectively.
- Great collaborator, with superb written and oral communication skills.
The following skills are desirable but not essential:
- Highly numerate, with a solid mathematical background, and experience designing virtual currencies and managing in-game economies.

Product Manager

The position
Playsport Games is looking for an experienced Product Manager to join our friendly games studio based in Guildford.
Duties
As the Product Manager of mobile games you will be responsible for supervising the development of world-class games for Smartphones. You will work with the development team to devise a production plan, budget and schedule for the games.
Your primary responsibilities will include:
- Act as a liaison between the development staff and the production staff
- Oversee a team of developers working on games
- Follow an iterative, prototyped, agile development process where usability and play tests ensure the intended game quality
- Create and maintain the roadmap of a portfolio of games
- Develop and maintain schedules and budgets
- Ensure deliverables are achieved efficiently
- Schedule timely quality assurance and testing, test ports and oversee outsourced testing teams
- Source external content (such as game audio and localization) and interface with third party providers
- Ad-hoc tasks requested by management team to improve the performance of the mobile team
Skills & Experience
We’re looking for a social, hard-working person who enjoys working in team with other people and is passionate and dedicated about his/her work. The ideal candidate will be strongly skilled in the following:
- Fluent in English
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Strong experience in the management of game and/or entertainment products and services
- Experienced, well versed and knowledgeable in agile development methodologies (Scrum)
- Experience managing and owning multiple products
- Deep understanding of the Smartphone and games industry
- Strong leadership skills and the ability to clearly articulate complex game development project issues
- Strong teamwork skills
- Experience working with teams across different functions and geographical locations
- Ability to evaluate development risks and create contingency plans
- BA or BSc degree or equivalent
- Self motivated, with good organisational skills and close attention to detail

Responsibilities
- Concept, design and pre-visualisation of frontend menus and UI elements to a brief provided by key stakeholders such as the art director and game designer
- Creating production art assets and working closely with a front-end programmer to ensure they are implemented accurately in game
- Meeting work targets and milestones deliverables in a high-pressured full production environment
- Take a key role in our game’s visual identity, ensuring and pushing for exceptional quality
- Take initiative on improving, streamlining, and developing art pipelines and documentation across the game
- Have ownership and be responsible for your artwork
- Work closely with other artists to ensure consistency and quality
Requirements:
- Demonstrated ability to design UI for video games
- Minimum 2 years’ experience in games industry
- Understanding of UI interaction design and UX pipelines and workflow
- A highly positive proactive work ethic
- Sense of humour?
- Excellent communication skills
- Good organization, problem solving and time management skills
Desirable not essential:
- Experience implementing UI in to Unity
